From Dead-End Job to International Expert
Gilo Kwesi Logan says he'd "reached the apex of the American dream." He had his Master's in education, and a stable, five-figure job with benefits.
But he "was absolutely miserable."
Gilo dreamed of being a professional speaker, educating large audiences about the issues of diversity, inclusion and equity about which he felt so passionate.
But the critics inside his own head told him he'd be a fool to throw his job security away, and asked him if "public speaking" was even a real job.
To his credit, Gilo didn't listen to those negative voices. He quit his job and pursued his dream career as a speaker, supporting himself with part-time teaching gigs. But he was soon "broke, baffled, and suffocating from the eagerness and potential" within that he just didn't know how to unleash.
That's when Gilo made another decision: To join Quantum Leap.
He says the coaching and training he got in the program were no "magic bullet," but did serve as a "catalyst" for change.
And Gilo's life did change! He multiplied his mailing list by nine times "almost immediately," landed an interview in Ebony, and then started lining up radio interviews and paid speaking gigs.
He also started bolstering his credibility by accepting a position as an adjunt professor at a community college, and accepting an invitation to the national Diversity MBA Leadership Conference, where he built up his network and generated client leads.
"Prospective clients, employees and donors were now reaching out to me," says Gilo. "I was no longer chasing success, it was chasing me."
Ultimately, Gilo's experience in promoting himself and in building his network led to him creating his own opportunity as a columnist for a national newspaper in Fiji. "And just like that," he says, "I was now an international expert."
Gilo has earned six-figure contracts for his speaking, consulting, and coaching, and has invested his earnings in his own, full-fledged diversity consulting firm.
He credits Quantum Leap with giving him the foundation for my business, the platform from which to launch his dreams, make meaningful money, and serve a greater good. "Most importantly," he adds, "Quantum Leap has provided me with a legacy of my own."
